Dedicated to giving back to its hometown, Sharp Propane donates resources, time and labor to a worthy Central Texas family and Habitat for Humanity.
SMITHVILLE, TEXAS – Sharp Propane, a leading residential and commercial service provider of green energy, has taken on a large supporting role in ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition build in Smithville for the Zdroj family.
Sharp Propane has contributed to the energy-efficiency of the build both by supplying green propane energy for the home—a long-term benefit to the family—and by supplying a Rinnai Tankless Water Heater, a space-saving energy efficient systems that heat water on-demand. Sharp is also a Platinum Sponsor of the build in which half of the donated funds will go to support the family’s home maintenance needs and half will help jumpstart the fund for Habitat for Humanity in Bastrop County.
“Community involvement is something our company highly values, and playing a role in the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition build was something we were eager to participate in,” said Steve McKay, Sharp Propane CEO. “Across this community, we have a lot of rebuilding to do, and we are rolling up our sleeves to support our neighbors. Supporting a worthy family and helping Habitat for Humanity continue the good work here in Bastrop County is something we definitely wanted to help lead.”
The Extreme Makeover: Home Edition build is supporting the Zdroj family, who not only lost their house and belongings, but Mizzy’s livelihood as well when her farm and art studio went up in flames. The family was preparing to convert a storage shed into temporary living quarters when Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and Bastrop’s EFC Custom Homes stepped in.
“I have been working with Sharp Propane for many years,” said Eric Christophe, EFC Custom Homes President and lead builder for the Extreme Makeover: Fridays 8/7c on ABC Home Edition build. “They have always been a company that I could rely upon and once again, they answered the call, even for a 5:00 a.m. installation.”
Dedicated to maintaining a year-round community service program, Sharp regularly donates up to 20 hours of service per employee annually, and upholds a charitable engagement fund that provides financial assistance to organizations where employees are involved in their communities. The company also has an annual Sharp Service Month, where employees volunteer with Texas non-profits as part of an ongoing commitment to community service.
“It’s natural to feel a sense of connection with your neighbors, and interestingly enough, the Zdroj family’s children attend Smithville ISD, the school district where I am a member of the School Board and have been named to represent Smithville ISD on a Revive Bastrop Task Force,” said McKay. “Even if all of our stories are different, we all share a common thread to have a safe haven in our homes, and that’s why this family’s story is so compelling.”
The Emmy award winning reality program “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” now in its 9th season, is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. It’s executive-produced by Brady Connell and George Verschoor. David Goldberg is Chairman, Endemol North America. The show airs Fridays from 8/7 c on ABC.
